About us
Combat Edge is a stats and news site focused on combat sports – primarily Mixed Martial Arts (MMA). Our goal is to provide the most in-depth statistics on fighters worldwide. For now, we focus on UFC fighters, but we plan to expand the site to cover all MMA organizations and, eventually, other combat sports. We are building the largest and most dynamic database of fighters in the world.
The company was founded by three friends passionate about combat sports: Frederic Lambert, Mathieu Martel, and Anthony Martel. We like to train, watch fights, and sometimes, we gamble on them. When preparing to watch a UFC card, and bet on a few fights, we saw a need to have a platform where we could efficiently compare fighters with their most relevant stats. In sports like football, baseball, and basketball, stats are great at predicting performance. They are used extensively by sports organizations, media, fans, and gamblers. Combat sports, and MMA in particular, are not like other sports. Stats don't play as big of a role. That's partly because it's such a wild and difficult-to-predict sport, which is part of what makes it so exciting. But it's also because it is a fairly new sport, at least regarding MMA. We think that there's an opportunity to identify and dive deeper into MMA stats as the sport evolves. With some fighters starting to stand out with their performances, we can start to identify statistics that can explain their greatness. Then, we can compare those stats to others in an attempt to better understand match-ups. Combat Edges sets out to create the extensive database needed to eventually help us better understand MMA, a sport we love so much.
The website also plans to provide MMA news, analysis, and gambling advice.
One of the co-founders, Frederic Lambert, is the editor-in-chief of Electrek, the largest electric vehicle and renewable energy news website. He plans to apply his ten years of editorial experience to make Combat Edge a leading platform for MMA news and analysis.
We plan to leverage our growing database as part of our news coverage and analysis.
Combat Edge also wants to be a place for positive discussions about combat sports amongst MMA fans. You are welcome to engage with us on our social media: X, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube. In the future, we plan to have interactive content that features MMA fans, who are some of the most fun fans in sports, in our opinion. You can look out for those on X Spaces, Instagram Live, and Youtube. Feedback is also welcomed and encouraged as we build the platform. This is a part-time but serious project for the team. If you want to collaborate with us, please reach out at fred@combat-edge.com. Word from our Editor MMA has been a passion of mine for over a decade. I love almost everything about this sport to the point that it ruined most other sports for me.
I find nothing more exciting to watch. MMA is a machine for creating exciting moments. Highlights. While you could watch several hours-long football and baseball games before having a moment that makes you go "WTF!", but you are almost guaranteed to get at least one on a UFC card. On top of a fistfight's natural excitement, I enjoy combat sport's incredible artistry. Watching a master striker, like Israel Adesanya, setting up a beautiful combination or a submission artist, like Charles Oliviera, synching in a triangle is equivalent to admiring works of art for me. Like artists working thousands of hours on paintings, martial artists spend that time perfecting their skills, and then they paint their own works of art inside the cage – in the most high-pressure environment against another martial artist trying to do the same. I also admire the courage of combat athletes. The level of bravery you need to strip down to your underwear and lock yourself inside a cage with another athlete who spent their life mastering several martial arts and likely spent weeks to months focused almost solely on how to render you unconscious is hard to overstate. It's the stuff of legends. In my humble opinion, this combination of excitement, courage, and artistry makes this the greatest sport in the world.
We want Combat Edge to be a shrine to that sport. We want the website to have the most significant database of fighters, fights, and stats worldwide. We want to leverage that to deliver value-added content in the MMA media space through articles and videos. It's very much a work in progress. We are working with a dedicated team of developers to keep adding features with the hope of eventually having a complete ecosystem of combat sports stats and media. We welcome your feedback in the process. We always love to hear from fellow passionate MMA people. We can't promise to always get things right, but we promise that our intentions are always good – with the goal of advancing the sport and shining a light on the fighters.
