Combat Edge interviewed Louis Jourdain, a rising prospect in Canada's MMA scene, ahead of his Dana White Contender Series fight on September 30th.
Louis's last name, Jourdain, should already be familiar to UFC fans thanks to his older brother, Charles, who is already 15 fights deep in his UFC career and has gained a following with some exciting fights and finishes.
The brothers have been training partners since a young age and possess an extensive background in Muay Thai and BJJ.
Louis' MMA career has had its ups and downs, and it is a bit behind his brother's due to a few unfortunate injuries, numerous canceled fights, and a successful stint in boxing.
After three consecutive wins and finishes on the Canadian MMA scene, he is finally getting his shot at the UFC through a fight at the Contender Series at the Apex in Las Vegas on September 30th against a prospect from the Fighting Nerds camp: Magno Dias.
We sat down with Louis Jourdain for a quick interview about his upcoming fight and where he is in his career, which is on the verge of a massive step:
Combat Edge's Take
Jourdain looks in the right place mentally for this fight. He is not putting too much pressure on himself and prefers to focus on his rigorous training and experience.
For those not familiar with Louis, I recommend watching some of his fights on YouTube or Fight Pass. Not unlike his brother, he is exciting to watch. He is more technical and tends to be a bit less wild and unpredictable than Charles, but he has the same willingness to engage in striking.
Louis looks comfortable in combat. He certainly leans on his striking more than his grappling, which has been a question mark on his resume, with two of his three losses coming by submission.
However, he faced a strong grappler in his last matchup and was able to reverse the position, dominating on the ground with brutal ground and pound.
UFC fans had similar questions about his brother, Charles, who is also primarily a striker, but he then began to submit everyone, with three of his last four wins coming by way of guillotine.
Either way, we probably won't get to see that from Louis in his Contender Series fight, as Dias is also primarily a striker.
On paper, it is a good stylistic match-up and a winnable fight on both sides. They are both taking a significant step up in competition and stand to learn a great deal from this fight. But they will do their learning on the biggest stage with a UFC contract on the line. I'm here for it.
