Building the resume

His second setback came in September 2018 at Superfight MMA 8, where unbeaten Isi Fitikefu stopped him with strikes in the first round. It would prove to be the last blemish on his record for years. From 2019 onward, Rowston went on a sustained run through the Australian circuit, alternating between New Generation Cage, Superfight MMA and the Shuriken Fight Series. He knocked out Martin Torres, submitted Leo Diaz with a first-round rear-naked choke and added a submission of Jayden Eynaud across 2019, then continued the streak with a stoppage of Eli Taufuiaevalu in 2020. He even showcased his striking in a 2022 Muay Thai bout, decisioning Connor Woodman, before returning to MMA and choking out Pane Haraki in the third round at Shuriken Fight Series 12 in September 2022. The run lifted him to 8-2 with a perfect finishing rate.

Rowston is one of the more complete finishers to come out of the Australian regional scene, splitting his eight wins evenly between knockouts and submissions – four apiece – for a 100 percent finish rate. That balance is the heart of his game: he is dangerous on the feet with his length and power, and equally comfortable hunting the rear-naked choke once a fight hits the canvas. His two losses both came against unbeaten or debuting opponents who later proved their quality, suggesting his setbacks were matters of timing and level rather than any glaring hole.
