Shooto Brasil rise and the Teixeira rematch

Silva rebounded from the Teixeira loss with finishes over Raul Andrade and Victor Carvalho, the latter ending when his opponent suffered a dislocated shoulder. In August 2017 he avenged his only defeat, beating Yan Teixeira by decision in a rematch that doubled as a Shooto Brasil strawweight championship bout. From there he expanded his reach, taking a decision over unbeaten Serdar Altas at Superior Challenge 19 in Sweden in 2019.

Cage Warriors and the Contender Series

After a layoff, Silva returned in dramatic fashion at Cage Warriors 151 in March 2023, stopping the 11-3 Stipe Brcic with a knee-and-punch finish in the third round. That win earned him a coveted invitation to Dana White's Contender Series, where in September 2023 he faced unbeaten Brazilian prospect Igor Severino. Silva was stopped in the second round by a left hook and follow-up ground strikes, the first knockout loss of his career and the blemish that kept him from a UFC contract that night. He bounced back in May 2024 with a third-round body-shot finish of Wanderley Silva at Shooto Brasil 122 to push his record to 9-2.

Fighting style

Silva is a finisher first and foremost, with a 78 percent finish rate and six of his nine wins coming by knockout. His striking is the centerpiece – fast hands, creative knees, and a willingness to attack the body and head from range – and his lone submission win, a debut rear-naked choke, shows he is comfortable on the mat as well. The flip side is durability against power punchers, as the second-round knockout by Severino demonstrated. At his best, Silva is a dynamic, highlight-reel striker who can end a fight from almost any position.
