The visa ordeal

Pat's road to the UFC became a story in itself. Offered a slot on Dana White's Contender Series, he signed to fight but had his US visa denied – reportedly for the fourth time – just a week before the event, scuttling his chance to perform on the show. Rather than send him back to the regional circuit, the UFC offered him a straight contract, turning a bureaucratic heartbreak into a direct promotion to the world's top organization.

Inside the octagon

Pat made his UFC debut on December 13, 2025, against the undefeated Allen Frye (6-0), and delivered a poised, three-round unanimous-decision win to move to 6-0 and spoil his opponent's perfect record. The follow-up proved tougher: on April 4, 2026, he dropped a majority decision to Thomas Petersen (10-4) over three rounds, the first loss of his career. It was a narrow setback against a fellow heavyweight prospect, and one that came after Pat had already shown he belonged at this level.

Fighting style

Pat is a karate-based striker who uses his enormous frame to control distance and land from range. Four of his six wins have come by knockout or TKO, a 67% finish rate, with the head-kick finish of Mendes a showcase of the Shotokan footwork and kicking that underpins his game. His jiu-jitsu blue belt gives him a baseline of grappling competence, but striking is clearly his primary weapon. The two decisions on his ledger – the win over Frye and the loss to Petersen – suggest he can be drawn into closer, grind-it-out fights where his finishing power is harder to apply, and tightening those margins will be central to how far the big Brazilian climbs at heavyweight.
