Submission specialist on the rise

The heart of Giron's career was a long run of grappling-based wins through the late 2000s and early 2010s. In 2009 he submitted Phillip Brown with a first-round rear-naked choke at Bellator 10, one of his higher-profile appearances, and the same year he picked up a win over the undefeated Rodolfo Rubio, then 3-0. He kept stacking results across the Mexican circuit, knocking off prospects and veterans alike as his submission game matured.

Signature wins and tough rematches

One of the standout victories of Giron's career came in July 2012, when he defeated the undefeated 11-0 prospect Marco Beltran at Xtreme Kombat – a result that underscored how dangerous "El Rojo" remained against rising talent. The story was not always one-sided, though: Rodolfo Rubio, the man Giron had beaten in 2009, returned the favor with a win of his own in 2013. Giron picked up a 2014 decision over Cody Carrillo at Bellator 113 and fought on into the mid-2010s, with his final recorded bout coming in 2016 against Daniel Lezama.

Fighting style

Giron was a submission artist in the purest sense. Of his 19 career wins, 14 came by submission – a remarkable rate that defined his entire approach – with just one knockout and four decisions rounding out the ledger for a 79% finish rate. His Renzo Gracie jiu-jitsu base gave him a polished, opportunistic ground game built on chokes and positional control, and he was happy to take a fight into deep water where his grappling could take over. The trade-off was predictable for a specialist of his era: four of his five losses came by submission, as elite grapplers occasionally beat him at his own game. Against most opposition, however, his mat work was the deciding factor.
