Jackson McVey bio
Personal background
Jackson "The Moose" McVey is an American middleweight competing in the UFC, born on March 25, 1999, in Minnesota. He earned his nickname early — his mother called him "Moose" because he was such a big kid, and it stuck once he reached the gym. McVey came to mixed martial arts as a self-described UFC video-game obsessive who decided he wanted to live the real thing, and he relocated to the St. Louis area in his early twenties to chase it. A long, rangy 6'4" southpaw with a 77" reach, he trains out of St. Charles MMA and built his game around grappling, holding a Brazilian jiu-jitsu brown belt and using his frame to hunt chokes from every position.
Path to the UFC
McVey turned professional in 2023 and tore through the regional circuit, fighting primarily under the LFA and Shamrock FC banners. He opened his career with a perfect run of first-round finishes — a guillotine choke of Deven Paulsen, back-to-back TKOs of Tom Krenzel and James Regina, a guillotine of Jaquis Williams, a brabo (D'Arce) choke of Ben Fowler, and a knee-and-punches stoppage of Mataeo Garner. That 6-0 record, every win inside the first round, was exactly the kind of finishing resume that earns a UFC call.
Stepping up to the UFC
The jump to the sport's top level brought the first adversity of McVey's career. On debut at UFC 318: Holloway vs. Poirier 3 in July 2025, he ran into the experienced Brunno Ferreira and was caught in a first-round armbar. He returned in November 2025 against Zach Reese and was submitted again, this time by a second-round rear-naked choke — two grappling losses that exposed how unforgiving the elite middleweight pool can be.
Bouncing back
McVey answered the rough start in emphatic fashion. In April 2026 he met veteran Sedriques Dumas and returned to what got him there, locking up a first-round D'Arce choke for his first UFC victory. The win moved his record to 7-2 and reaffirmed that the submission game which carried him through the regionals can travel to the biggest stage when he imposes it.

Fighting style
McVey is a finisher in the truest sense — every one of his seven professional wins has come inside the distance, four by submission and three by knockout or TKO, for a 100% finish rate. He weaponizes his height and reach to set up chokes, with the guillotine, D'Arce and brabo all part of an aggressive front-headlock arsenal, and he mixes in knee taps and trips to drag opponents into his world. The flip side has shown up against the division's best: both of his losses came by submission, a reminder that the same scramble-heavy style that creates his finishes can also leave him exposed when he meets equally dangerous grapplers.
Career highlights
- Perfect finishing resume — all seven of his career wins have ended inside the distance, a 100% finish rate split between four submissions and three knockouts.
- First UFC win over a veteran — submitted Sedriques Dumas with a first-round D'Arce choke in April 2026 to break into the win column at the highest level.
- Undefeated regional run — reached the UFC on a 6-0 record built entirely on first-round stoppages across LFA and Shamrock FC.
