BIO
Early Life & Background
Robert Valentin Frey was born on March 31, 1995, in Switzerland and currently fights out of Zurich under Fight Move Academy. Standing at 6'2″ with a 77″ reach and fighting orthodox, he earned the intimidating nickname “Robzilla” early in his career. Valentin’s journey began in the European regional MMA scene, where he developed a well-rounded skill set blending submission grappling, power striking, and sharp fight IQ. His quiet confidence and disciplined work ethic helped him rise steadily through the ranks and eventually catch the attention of the UFC.
MMA Debut & Rise to UFC
Valentin made his professional MMA debut in November 2016 with a rear-naked choke victory. Over the next two years, he established himself as one of the top prospects in the Swiss and German circuits, racking up dominant wins via submissions and TKOs. By 2018, he held an unbeaten 7–0 record, with most of his victories ending inside the distance.
In 2024, Valentin joined the cast of The Ultimate Fighter Season 32. He advanced to the semifinals of the tournament with an impressive submission win, showcasing his slick grappling and composure under pressure. Although he didn’t make the finale, his performance was enough to earn him a UFC contract.
Later that year, Valentin made his official UFC debut at UFC Fight Night: Cannonier vs. Borralho. He submitted Paddy McCorry in the first round, making an instant impression. He followed that up with another victory—a TKO via corner stoppage over Zoran Đođ. However, Valentin then hit a rough patch, suffering a TKO loss to Ryan Loder in August 2024, and a narrow split decision defeat to Torrez Finney in April 2025, bringing his UFC record to 1–2.
Fighting Style & Attributes
At middleweight, Valentin stands out for his size and reach, but his most dangerous tools lie in his grappling. A methodical and intelligent fighter, he blends pressure wrestling with submission threats, particularly from dominant top positions. With 60% of his career wins coming by submission, he’s known for chaining takedowns and hunting finishes once the fight hits the mat.
While his striking continues to evolve, Valentin is effective in the clinch and uses his jab and long frame to set up entries for takedowns. He fights with patience and strategy, preferring control over chaos. Despite recent setbacks, his technical base and ability to adapt round over round keep him competitive in a deep middleweight field.
