UFC arrival and rise

Giles made an immediate impression in the Octagon. In his promotional debut at UFC 213 in July 2017, he knocked out James Bochnovic with a second-round punch, then followed that with a third-round knockout of Antônio Braga Neto at UFC Fight Night 123 in December 2017 to push his pro record to a spotless 11-0. The undefeated streak ended in 2019, when back-to-back guillotine-choke losses to Zak Cummings and Gerald Meerschaert exposed a vulnerability on the mat and forced him to rebuild.

Rebuilding at middleweight and welterweight

Giles answered the adversity with a strong run, taking a split decision over James Krause at UFC 247 in February 2020, stopping Bevon Lewis by third-round TKO later that year, and outpointing the previously unbeaten Roman Dolidze in March 2021. The momentum stalled against rising contenders: he was knocked out by Dricus Du Plessis at UFC 264 in July 2021 and by an undefeated Michael Morales at UFC 270 in January 2022. After dropping to welterweight, Giles decisioned Louis Cosce in September 2022 and edged Preston Parsons by split decision in March 2023, but the back half of his run grew difficult, with losses to Gabriel Bonfim, Carlos Prates and Mike Malott.

Fighting style

Giles is a finisher who blends knockout power with a credible submission game – of his 16 wins, six have come by knockout and five by submission, giving him a 69 percent finish rate. His best moments arrive when he can plant his feet and let his hands go, and his early-career grappling produced multiple chokes against quality opposition. The honest weakness on his ledger is his own neck: three of his seven defeats have come by submission, two of them via guillotine, a pattern opponents have learned to target when he pressures forward.
