Finding a groove

After a 2016 decision loss to unbeaten Joey Gomez at War on the Valley Isle 5, Zane settled into the best stretch of his career. He went on a long submission-heavy run through 2017, 2018 and 2019, including a sharp first-round armbar of unbeaten prospect Dedrek Sanders at Alaska FC 133 in September 2017. The streak earned him bigger opportunities, among them a 2019 appearance on Dana White's Contender Series against undefeated Justin Gonzales, who edged him on the scorecards. That same year he was submitted by another unbeaten prospect, Max Rohskopf, at Final Fight Championship 40 – the recurring story of a fighter repeatedly matched against the division's hottest risers.

The global circuit

Zane's willingness to fight anyone, anywhere took him onto some of the sport's most international stages. He picked up a signature win in October 2021, stopping veteran Steven Siler with strikes in the first round at Fierce FC 17. From there he stepped into deep waters against elite competition, falling to Loik Radzhabov by first-round guillotine at Eagle FC 44 in early 2022 and to former UFC fighter Luis Pena by first-round triangle choke at Titan FC 76 a few months later. He closed out this run competing in Japan under the RIZIN banner, a testament to how far his career carried him from the islands where it began.

Fighting style

Zane is an all-action submission grappler whose finish breakdown tells the whole story: of his 15 wins, 10 have come by submission and four by knockout, with just one decision – a finish rate north of 90 percent. He is constantly hunting the rear-naked choke and is comfortable chaining into armbars, triangles and leg attacks, and he carries enough power to end fights with strikes when the opening appears. That high-risk, high-reward style is also his vulnerability: his losses skew heavily toward submissions and early stoppages, the same way his wins do. Zane brings pressure and pace every time out, and against him a fight rarely sees the judges – for better or worse.
