Building a contender

From there Gustafsson assembled the body of work that earned him a UFC look, piling up knockouts on the regional circuit. His momentum was interrupted in April 2023, when he dropped a majority decision to the vastly experienced Joilton Lutterbach at Brave CF 70 – a fighter who entered with a 37–10 record. Gustafsson responded the way he typically does, with finishes: he closed out 2023 with two more TKO victories and then earned his UFC contract in August 2024 with a second-round knee-strike stoppage of the previously one-loss Pat Pytlik on Dana White's Contender Series.

UFC run

Gustafsson announced himself in the Octagon in June 2025, outpointing the dangerous knockout artist Khaos Williams over three rounds for a unanimous-decision win at UFC 316 – a poised debut against a feared striker. The follow-up was a harsh lesson at the elite level: in September 2025 he was stopped in the first round by surging contender Rinat Fakhretdinov. He is scheduled to return in June 2026 against Daniil Donchenko.

Fighting style

Gustafsson is one of the more aggressive finishers in his weight class, with a finish rate around 83 percent: eight of his 12 wins have come by knockout and two by submission, leaving only two decisions on his ledger. His long-time Greco-Roman wrestling base underpins a forward-pressing, power-striking game, and his height and reach let him land heavy shots from the outside. The flip side is that his ceiling is still being tested – the first-round loss to Fakhretdinov showed that top-tier opposition can punish his willingness to engage. At his best, though, he is a finisher who ends fights rather than coasts through them.
