Building a contender's resume

Nzechukwu bounced back and began to show why his size made him a problem at 205 pounds. He knocked out the previously unbeaten Carlos Ulberg with second-round punches in 2021 – a comeback win after a difficult start – then stopped Danilo Marques with a standing TKO. The run hit turbulence with a first-round knockout loss to Da Woon Jung and a split-decision defeat to Nicolae Negumereanu, but he answered both. He stopped Karl Roberson with third-round elbows, then produced one of his signature highlights, a second-round flying-knee-and-punches TKO of veteran Ion Cutelaba in 2022. He followed with a rare submission, a standing guillotine choke of Devin Clark at UFC 288 in 2023.

Move toward heavyweight

A first-round TKO loss to Dustin Jacoby and a split-decision defeat to the experienced Ovince St. Preux prompted a rethink. Nzechukwu rediscovered his knockout power by moving up, finishing Chris Barnett with a first-round knee and punches at UFC 308 and stopping Łukasz Brzeski in the opening round at UFC 310. A 2025 first-round heel-hook submission loss to Valter Walker exposed his grappling, and he closed out the year with a majority draw against Marcus Buchecha.

Fighting style

Nzechukwu is a knockout artist who weaponizes his height and 83-inch reach, fighting at long range with kicks, knees and heavy hands. Ten of his 14 wins have come by knockout or TKO, fueling a 79% finish rate that ranks among the most explosive in his division. His best work comes when he keeps fights standing and uses distance to land powerful, fight-ending strikes from angles few opponents can match. The consistent vulnerability has been on the mat: of his six losses, four have come by submission or knockout, including two slick chokes and a heel hook, underscoring that grappling-heavy opponents who can close the distance remain his toughest test.
