Ibo Aslan bio
Personal background
Ibo "The Last Ottoman" Aslan is a Turkish light heavyweight competing in the UFC and one of the most explosive punchers to come out of the European scene. Born Halil İbrahim Demiraslan on April 23, 1996, he is of Turkish heritage and built his career in Austria, where he began fighting professionally before relocating his profile to Istanbul. Aslan did not grow up in combat sports – he played soccer as a teenager and only took up fighting around age 18, starting with boxing before switching to MMA in search of a sport where he could rely entirely on himself. Standing a towering 6'3" with a 77" reach and training out of Gym 23, he is a long, heavy-handed 205-pounder who has made knockouts his calling card and embraced the role of a trailblazer for Turkish MMA.
Path to the UFC
Aslan turned professional in 2017 on the Austrian Fight Challenge circuit, where his power was apparent from the start – he stopped his first several opponents inside the distance, including a third-round TKO of the previously unbeaten Robert Valentin at Austrian FC 8 in December 2018. His undefeated start ran into its first real test in August 2020, when he was submitted by rear-naked choke by then-unbeaten Anton Turkalj at Brave CF 40, exposing a vulnerability on the mat. Aslan responded the way he knows best, returning to the win column with knockouts, including a first-round stoppage of veteran Amilcar Alves in 2022.
UFC run and the rematch
Aslan punched his ticket to the UFC in August 2023, blasting out the 12-2 Paulo Renato Jr. with a first-round TKO on the Contender Series. He got the chance to avenge his only blemish at the time in March 2024, knocking out Anton Turkalj – the man who had submitted him – with a third-round stoppage in his Octagon outing. He followed with a statement first-round TKO of the unbeaten Raffael Cerqueira at UFC 308 in October 2024, running his knockout streak deeper. The momentum stalled hard in 2025: he was submitted by an arm-triangle choke from Ion Cutelaba in February, dropped a unanimous decision to Billy Elekana in July, and was knocked out in the first round by the unbeaten Iwo Baraniewski at UFC 323 in December, a three-fight skid that cooled his rise.
Fighting style
Aslan is one of the purest finishers in the division: every single one of his 14 professional wins has come by knockout or TKO, a 100% finish rate built on length, timing and heavy hands, with most of those stoppages arriving in the opening round. He is a front-running knockout artist who looks to end fights early and overwhelm opponents before they can establish their own game. The flip side is just as clear from the record – all four of his losses have come either on the ground or in deeper waters, with two submissions, a decision and a knockout against him. When opponents survive the early storm, get the fight to the mat, or take him into the championship rounds, his finishing-or-bust profile becomes a liability, as his 2025 results underlined.
Career highlights
- 100% finish rate — all 14 of his professional wins have come by knockout or TKO, most inside the first round, making him one of the most lethal early finishers at light heavyweight.
- Avenged his first loss — knocked out Anton Turkalj in 2024, reversing the rear-naked-choke defeat Turkalj had handed him in 2020.
- UFC 308 statement — stopped the previously unbeaten Raffael Cerqueira in the first round at UFC 308, a marquee win during the peak of his climb.
