The Combate years

Madrigal's profile rose sharply once he reached Combate Americas, where he became a fixture of the promotion's Mexico-focused cards. He hit turbulence first, dropping a decision to unbeaten Alejandro Flores at Combate 21 in 2018, a loss to one of the region's most polished prospects. He bounced back in a major way at Combate 27 later that year, submitting the highly regarded Cristian Quiñonez by third-round rear-naked choke in front of his home Guadalajara crowd, the signature win of his career to that point.

Highs, lows and a late surge

The momentum continued in 2019, when Madrigal stopped Spain's Zebenzui Ruiz with second-round punches at Combate 32. That same year, though, he ran into a brutal reminder of the division's depth, getting knocked out in the first round by Marcelo Rojo at Combate 45. Madrigal regrouped and produced arguably his best stretch in 2022 and 2023, going on a four-fight winning run through Budo Sento Championship that featured knockouts, ground-and-pound and submission finishes, and earned him a 2023 berth on Dana White's Contender Series. There, he was stopped in the first round by surging Brazilian Vinicius Oliveira, a UFC-bound talent.

Madrigal is a balanced, finish-oriented bantamweight: of his 15 wins, 7 have come by knockout and 5 by submission, with just 3 reaching the judges — an 80% finish rate. His boxing roots show in his power and combinations, while years of grappling give him real threat off the back and in scrambles, as the chokes of Quiñonez and others demonstrate. The honest weakness is durability against the division's heaviest hitters; his losses to Rojo and Oliveira both came by first-round knockout, suggesting that elite strikers can find his chin when he presses forward.
