Earning the Octagon the hard way

His first crack at a UFC contract came on Dana White's Contender Series in October 2025, and it did not go his way: undefeated prospect Michael Oliveira stopped him by second-round TKO. Rather than fade, Valenzuela rebuilt immediately. In March 2026 he knocked out Yusaku Kinoshita with punches in the second round under the Shooto banner in Japan, a result that helped earn him a short-notice UFC opportunity.

UFC arrival

Valenzuela made the most of it. In April 2026 he made his UFC debut against grizzled veteran Max Griffin and, despite being knocked down during the fight, battled back to take a unanimous decision over three rounds. The win validated the long, winding climb and announced him as a welterweight with the toughness and power to hang on the sport's biggest stage.

Fighting style

Valenzuela is an aggressive, well-rounded finisher whose record leans heavily toward stoppages: seven of his fourteen wins have come by knockout and two by submission, against five decisions, for a finish rate around 64 percent. He throws heavy, varied strikes, has shown knockout power with both his hands and his knees, and complements it with a real grappling threat, including multiple armbar finishes earlier in his career. The questions sit on the defensive side. Both of his most recent stoppage losses came against pressure punchers, and he was dropped even in his winning UFC debut, suggesting a fighter who can be hit but who has the heart and finishing instinct to fight his way back.
