Victor Valenzuela bio
Personal background
Victor Valenzuela, nicknamed "Sicozis," is a Chilean welterweight competing in the UFC. Born on February 9, 1994, in Santiago, Chile, he came up through his country's small but hungry MMA scene and turned professional in 2014. After years grinding on the South American circuit, he relocated to train in the United States, basing himself out of MMA Masters in Miami, the same gym that has developed a string of Latin American fighters. Listed at 5'9" with a long 71" reach for the division, Valenzuela built his reputation as a powerful, finish-minded competitor who nearly gave up hope of reaching the UFC before a late-career surge changed his trajectory.
Path to the UFC
Valenzuela's road was anything but smooth. He went 1-2 over his first three pro fights and dropped a 2015 bout in a title grand prix, then weathered a long gap and a 2021 disqualification loss before his career finally caught fire. From 2022 onward he reeled off wins under Combate Global, LFA and other promotions, capturing an interim Fury FC welterweight title along the way. The breakthrough recognition came in May 2023, when he stopped the experienced Japanese veteran Shinsho Anzai with elbows and punches for a second-round TKO, the kind of statement win that put him on the UFC's radar.
Earning the Octagon the hard way
His first crack at a UFC contract came on Dana White's Contender Series in October 2025, and it did not go his way: undefeated prospect Michael Oliveira stopped him by second-round TKO. Rather than fade, Valenzuela rebuilt immediately. In March 2026 he knocked out Yusaku Kinoshita with punches in the second round under the Shooto banner in Japan, a result that helped earn him a short-notice UFC opportunity.
UFC arrival
Valenzuela made the most of it. In April 2026 he made his UFC debut against grizzled veteran Max Griffin and, despite being knocked down during the fight, battled back to take a unanimous decision over three rounds. The win validated the long, winding climb and announced him as a welterweight with the toughness and power to hang on the sport's biggest stage.
Fighting style
Valenzuela is an aggressive, well-rounded finisher whose record leans heavily toward stoppages: seven of his fourteen wins have come by knockout and two by submission, against five decisions, for a finish rate around 64 percent. He throws heavy, varied strikes, has shown knockout power with both his hands and his knees, and complements it with a real grappling threat, including multiple armbar finishes earlier in his career. The questions sit on the defensive side. Both of his most recent stoppage losses came against pressure punchers, and he was dropped even in his winning UFC debut, suggesting a fighter who can be hit but who has the heart and finishing instinct to fight his way back.
