Building the hype in the UFC

Nickal made his Octagon debut in March 2023 at UFC 285, submitting Jamie Pickett with a first-round arm-triangle choke. He followed it in July 2023 by knocking out unbeaten Val Woodburn in the first round, then earned a marquee slot on the UFC 300 card in April 2024, finishing Cody Brundage with a second-round rear-naked choke. His first taste of adversity came in November 2024 at UFC 309, where seasoned Paul Craig dragged him into deep water before Nickal pulled out a unanimous-decision win – a rounds-banking education against a dangerous grappler.

First loss and the bounce-back

The unbeaten run ended in May 2025, when Reinier de Ridder stopped Nickal with a second-round knee to the body – a sharp reminder that his striking and durability still needed seasoning. He answered emphatically: in November 2025 at UFC 322 he knocked out grappling ace Rodolfo Vieira with a third-round head kick, then opened 2026 by stopping Kyle Daukaus with first-round punches and elbows at UFC Freedom Fights 250, showing the striking growth his critics had demanded.

Fighting style

Nickal's foundation is world-class wrestling and control, and his finishing has followed suit: of his nine wins, four are by submission and four by knockout, an 89% finish rate that reflects how rarely he lets fights reach the judges. He chains takedowns into dominant position and high-percentage chokes, but the most encouraging development has been his striking – the head-kick knockout of Vieira and the elbow-heavy finish of Daukaus suggest a fighter rounding into a complete threat. The de Ridder loss exposed body-shot vulnerability and the need to stay disciplined when matched against rangy, experienced strikers, the clear test on his path toward contention.
