Charlie Campbell bio
Personal background
Charlie "The Cannibal" Campbell is an American lightweight competing in the UFC. Born in 1995 and raised in East Rockaway on Long Island, New York, he found combat sports early, joining the Lynbrook wrestling program as a young boy and adding jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai/boxing in his teens after watching the UFC as a kid hooked him on the sport. He worked as a personal trainer before committing fully to fighting. A 6'0" lightweight with a 72-inch reach, Campbell fights out of the respected Longo-Weidman MMA program (the Serra-Longo lineage) on Long Island, the home of multiple UFC champions.
Path to the UFC
Campbell turned professional in 2019, winning his debut by split decision at Ring of Combat before dropping his second pro bout. He rebuilt steadily across Bellator, CFFC and the New York-area regional scene, leaning on his striking to rack up TKO and KO finishes – including a first-round knockout of Guilherme dos Santos and stoppages of Vadim Ogar and Nick Giulietti. In August 2022 he ran into Chris Duncan on the Contender Series and was knocked out in the first round, a setback that delayed but did not derail his UFC dream.
UFC career
Campbell got his Octagon shot in September 2023 and made it count, stopping Alex Reyes by first-round TKO on short notice to secure his roster spot. He backed it up in April 2024 with a hard-fought unanimous-decision win over the dangerous Trevor Peek, a fan-friendly brawl that showed he could win in deeper waters and not just chase the knockout.
Recent setback
The step up in competition caught up with him in September 2025, when surging prospect Tom Nolan submitted Campbell by first-round rear-naked choke. It was the first submission loss of his career and exposed the grappling exchanges as the area he most needs to shore up, leaving him at 9-3 as he looks to bounce back.
Fighting style
Campbell is a pure pressure striker whose game is built around volume and power. Six of his nine wins have come by knockout, with the other three by decision and zero submissions, for a 67% finish rate that tells the story plainly: he is at his best when he can stand and trade, batter opponents with leg kicks and punches, and force stoppages. His cardio and toughness let him push a relentless pace, as the Peek war demonstrated. The clear vulnerability is on the mat – the Nolan choke and the early Duncan knockout are reminders that opponents who can change levels or capitalize on a defensive lapse have found openings.
