Building a name

One of the defining early wins came in 2017, when Smyth submitted unbeaten prospect Darrius Flowers by first-round rear-naked choke at WXC 69: Illuminate — a notable scalp over a fighter who would later reach the UFC. Smyth kept rolling through 2018 and into 2019, extending his winning streak with decisions and finishes and pushing his record toward the cusp of national attention. The momentum earned him a spot on the sport's biggest proving ground.

Testing the ceiling

In August 2019, Smyth got his shot on Dana White's Contender Series, facing the experienced Brok Weaver. Weaver, riding a 13–4 record, edged Smyth by decision, ending his unbeaten regional run against tougher competition. The years since have been a mix of high and low: a 2020 knockout loss to Maycon Mendonça at LFA 90, then a spectacular 2023 first-round spinning-wheel-kick knockout of Jonathan Piersma in the LFA 167 main event, before a 2024 stoppage loss to unbeaten Shamidkhan Magomedov at LFA 177.
