UFC run

Sutherland's introduction to the UFC was a harsh one. In October 2025 at UFC 321 he was caught by Valter Walker, who tapped him with a first-round heel hook – a brutal reminder that the heavyweight elite punish any defensive lapse. Things got harder before they got better: in March 2026 he was stopped by first-round strikes against Brando Peričić, leaving him searching for his first Octagon win.

He found it in style. In May 2026 Sutherland out-pointed the dangerous, fan-favorite slugger Tai Tuivasa over three rounds to claim a unanimous-decision victory – by far the biggest result of his career and exactly the kind of name-value win that resets a heavyweight's trajectory. He is scheduled to return in August 2026 against José Montanha, looking to build a streak off that breakthrough.

Fighting style

Sutherland is a heavy-handed pressure fighter who hunts the knockout. Eight of his 11 wins have come by KO or TKO – a 73% finish rate – and his early-career run of first-round stoppages showed how quickly he can end a night when he lands clean. His size and reach let him work behind a long jab and clubbing power shots. The losses, though, map the work ahead: he has been out-pointed by sharper boxers and, most painfully, submitted by a heel hook against Walker, flagging grappling and leg-lock defense as the areas that will determine how far he climbs in a division where one mistake ends fights.
