Building a finishing reputation

The rebuild paid off in November 2020, when de Sousa earned a decision win over the previously unbeaten Mariusz Ksiazkiewicz, who entered at a perfect 8-0. Handing a prospect his first loss put de Sousa on the radar of bigger shows, and in September 2021 he landed on a Contender Series card against Chidi Njokuani, a rangy, decorated striker who stopped de Sousa with ground-and-pound in the third round. A year later, in September 2022, de Sousa took another step up against Ikram Aliskerov, the highly touted Dagestani grappler who caught him with a first-round kimura. Resurgence on the Brazilian scene

Rather than fade, de Sousa returned to his bread and butter. In November 2022 he stopped grizzled veteran Gilmar Dutra Lima, and after a 2023 decision loss to Rafael Celestino and a draw with Ewerton Polaquini, he rattled off a series of first-round finishes – a knockout of Jorge Olazar, a knee-and-punches stoppage of Claudio Rocha, and a brutal knee finish of Tyago Moreira in April 2024. The run reaffirmed what the regional circuit already knew: when de Sousa lands clean, the fight ends.
