Road to UFC run

Choi's biggest stage came in the UFC's Road to UFC tournament, where he strung together quality wins in his quest for a UFC contract. He opened with a unanimous-decision victory over Rama Supandhi in June 2022, then advanced with another unanimous decision over veteran Qiujilunzhou later that year. In May 2023 he edged unbeaten Indian prospect Sumit Kumar by unanimous decision to reach the final. The run ultimately fell short earlier in that bracket against fellow Korean Hyun Sung Park, who submitted Choi by third-round rear-naked choke – the only stoppage loss of his career and a defeat that left him as a Road to UFC runner-up rather than a contract winner.

Recent form

After the Road to UFC disappointment, Choi returned to the regional circuit and kept winning. He took a split decision over Kotetsu Hara at Double G FC 16 in March 2024, then closed out the year with a second-round ground-and-pound stoppage of Yuhei Koga at Breakthrough Combat 2 in December 2024, extending his active winning streak to two and keeping his name in the conversation for another promotional opportunity.

Fighting style

Choi is a grinder. Six of his nine wins have come by decision, with the other three by knockout or ground-and-pound, and his 33% finish rate reflects a fighter who tends to win the rounds rather than chase the highlight. His best work comes from a pressuring, position-first approach that lets him control where fights take place and bank time in dominant spots. The flip side is that his decision-heavy profile has occasionally left judges to settle close fights, and his lone submission loss to Park exposed the danger of giving up his back to elite grapplers. Against lower-tier opposition he has shown he can end things early, but his identity remains that of a durable, technically sound flyweight who fights at his own pace.
