Tommy Gantt bio
Personal background
Tommy Gantt is an American lightweight in the UFC's 155-pound division, an unbeaten 12-0 prospect who arrived in the Octagon on the strength of an elite wrestling pedigree. Born on January 9, 1993, Gantt came to mixed martial arts late after a decorated collegiate wrestling career at North Carolina State University, where he became an ACC champion and NCAA Division I All-American and finished among the program's all-time win leaders. He even climbed as high as the top of the U.S. Olympic wrestling ladder before pivoting to fighting, and he has continued to give back to the sport as an assistant coach with the Wolfpack wrestling team. Listed at 5'11" with a long 76-inch reach, Gantt trains at Jaw Breaker Boxing and rounded out his wrestling base with boxing and amateur kickboxing.
Path to the UFC
Gantt's combat-sports journey actually began with a 2020 grappling-match loss to David McFadden before he committed to MMA, and once he did, he moved with rare urgency. After turning to professional mixed martial arts in April 2024, he fought an extraordinary schedule, racking up wins almost monthly across regional promotions such as New Line Cagefighting, Showcase MMA, Shamrock FC and Fight For It. He blended his wrestling with a fast-developing submission game, finishing fights with guillotines, a D'Arce choke and ground-and-pound strikes, and stacking a perfect run that turned heads given how compressed his timeline was.
Earning the contract and Octagon debut
That blistering run culminated in September 2025 on Dana White's Contender Series, where Gantt submitted unbeaten Adam Livingston with a first-round guillotine choke to earn his UFC contract and stay perfect. He carried the momentum into his promotional debut in May 2026, stopping unbeaten Ukrainian prospect Artur Miniev by second-round TKO. It was a statement result, validating both the wrestling-heavy pressure that defines his game and his ability to translate regional dominance to the sport's biggest stage while keeping his record spotless at 12-0.

Fighting style
Gantt is a wrestler-grappler to the core, and his finish breakdown reflects a fighter who rarely leaves things to the judges: six of his 12 wins have come by knockout and five by submission, with just one decision, for a finish rate above 90 percent. His All-American wrestling lets him dictate where fights happen, planting opponents on the mat where his guillotine and D'Arce chokes become genuine fight-enders, and his developing hands give him the power to finish on the feet as well. The chief caveat is experience: he is a relative latecomer who built his unbeaten record at high volume against regional competition, so the UFC will test how that wrestling-first approach holds against elite lightweights.
Career highlights
- NCAA All-American wrestler — an ACC champion and Division I All-American at NC State who reached the top of the U.S. Olympic ladder before turning to MMA.
- Contender Series contract — submitted unbeaten Adam Livingston by first-round guillotine in September 2025 to earn his UFC deal.
- Statement UFC debut — stopped unbeaten Artur Miniev by second-round TKO in May 2026 to push his record to a perfect 12-0.
