Adversity and rebuilding

Dariush's middle years tested him. After a 2016 submission loss to Michael Chiesa, he scored a highlight first-round knockout of the unbeaten James Vick and a decision over Rashid Magomedov, but then hit the roughest patch of his career: a flying-knee knockout loss to Edson Barboza in 2017, a majority draw with Evan Dunham, and a knockout loss to Alexander Hernandez in 2018. Rather than fade, he reinvented himself.

The eight-fight surge

Starting with a 2018 decision over Thiago Moisés, Dariush put together one of the most impressive runs the division has seen. He submitted Drew Dober and Frank Camacho, then unloaded the power side of his game with knockouts of Drakkar Klose and a spinning-back-fist finish of Scott Holtzman. He avenged the past with a split decision over Ferreira, took a unanimous decision over lightweight legend Tony Ferguson, and capped the streak by outpointing the surging Mateusz Gamrot at UFC 280 — eight straight wins that pushed him to the brink of a title shot.

Recent run

The streak ended with a first-round TKO loss to Charles Oliveira in 2023, followed by a knockout loss to Arman Tsarukyan. After time away, Dariush returned with a 2025 decision win over Renato Moicano, then dropped bouts to Benoit Saint-Denis and Quillan Salkilld.
