Undefeated UFC climb

Inside the Octagon, Cortez established herself as one of the division's most reliable decision winners. She opened her UFC run by outworking Vanessa Melo in November 2019, then beat Stephanie Egger in October 2020 and edged Justine Kish by split decision in April 2021. The grind continued with a unanimous nod over the unbeaten Melissa Gatto at UFC 274 in May 2022 and a clear decision over Jasmine Jasudavicius in September 2023, extending an unbeaten UFC stretch built on control and cardio.

Step up in competition

The level rose sharply in July 2024, when Cortez took a five-round main event against former two-division champion Rose Namajunas and lost a unanimous decision — the first defeat of her UFC career. She answered with a composed unanimous-decision win over the experienced Viviane Araujo at UFC 317 in June 2025, before running into a rematch with Erin Blanchfield at UFC 322 in November 2025, this time falling to a second-round rear-naked choke. She is next scheduled to face Cong Wang at UFC 329 in July 2026.

Fighting style

Cortez is a classic positional grinder. Ten of her twelve wins have come by decision, a low 17% finish rate that tells the story of her game: pressure, takedowns, top control and a relentless pace that wears opponents down over fifteen or twenty-five minutes. Her wrestling and conditioning are her calling cards, and she rarely loses rounds she dictates. The trade-off is a lack of fight-ending power, and her two career submission losses point to the danger she faces when a sharper grappler reverses the position — as Blanchfield did in their rematch. At her best, though, Cortez is a difficult, technical out for anyone in the flyweight division.
