Personal background
Rose Namajunas is an American flyweight and former two-time UFC Women's Strawweight Champion who fights under the nickname "Thug" and carries a 14-8 professional record. Born June 29, 1992, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, she is of Lithuanian descent, named after her great-grandmother by parents who emigrated to the United States. Namajunas began Taekwondo at age five and earned a junior black belt by nine, later adding karate, Brazilian jiu-jitsu and wrestling to her base. As a teenager she trained kickboxing and MMA under Duke Roufus at Roufusport in Milwaukee; she now fights out of 303 Training Center in Colorado. Standing 5'5" with a 65" reach, she blends precision striking with a black belt in Taekwondo and a sharp submission game.
Path to the UFC
Namajunas turned professional in 2013, opening her career in Invicta FC with two quick submissions before dropping a unanimous decision to Tecia Pennington at Invicta FC 6. She earned her UFC platform on The Ultimate Fighter Season 20 in 2014, submitting Alex Chambers, Joanne Wood and Randa Markos en route to the final, where she was submitted by Carla Esparza. She rebounded with rear-naked choke wins over Angela Hill and Paige VanZant, then avenged her loss to Pennington by decision in 2016 before a split-decision loss to Karolina Kowalkiewicz.
Strawweight title reign
After submitting Michelle Waterson-Gomez in 2017, Namajunas authored one of the division's biggest upsets at UFC 217, stopping undefeated champion Joanna Jędrzejczyk by first-round TKO to win the strawweight title. She defended it by unanimous decision in their 2018 rematch. A 2019 slam knockout loss to Jéssica Andrade cost her the belt, but she answered with a split-decision win over Andrade in 2020. At UFC 261 in 2021 she reclaimed the championship with a stunning first-round head-kick knockout of Weili Zhang, then retained it by split decision later that year.
Move to flyweight
Namajunas lost the title back to Esparza by split decision at UFC 274 in 2022, then moved up to flyweight. After a unanimous-decision loss to Manon Fiorot in 2023, she strung together decision wins over Amanda Ribas and Tracy Cortez. A unanimous-decision loss to Erin Blanchfield followed in late 2024, before she edged Miranda Maverick in 2025. Most recently she dropped a unanimous decision to Natália Silva at UFC 324 in January 2026.
