Andre Petroski bio
Personal background
Andre Petroski is an American middleweight fighter in the UFC, born on June 12, 1991, and raised in Springfield, Pennsylvania, in the Philadelphia area. He came up through one of the deepest wrestling pipelines in the country, the son of a wrestling father and a multiple-time Pennsylvania state medalist out of Springfield High School before competing collegiately. He wrestled at Kutztown University, a Division II program, where he qualified for the NCAA Championships in 2015 at 184 pounds. After college he transitioned fully into mixed martial arts, layering a Brazilian jiu-jitsu game on top of his wrestling base under the Renzo Gracie banner. The 6'0" Petroski, who carries a 73-inch reach, now fights out of Renzo Gracie Philly, where his grappling-first approach was built.
Path to the UFC
Petroski turned professional in 2018 and tore through the Pennsylvania regional scene, primarily under the Art of War Cage Fighting banner. He opened with a first-round armbar of Ryan Parker in 2019 and stacked finishes before a 2020 TKO loss to Aaron Jeffery at LFA 93. He rebuilt on The Ultimate Fighter Season 29 in 2021, submitting Aaron Phillips with a guillotine before falling to Bryan Battle by submission in the house. The TUF run earned him a UFC roster spot regardless.
UFC run
Petroski announced himself in the Octagon with a third-round TKO of Micheal Gillmore in August 2021, then submitted Yaozong Hu by arm-triangle choke at UFC 267 that October. He kept the momentum rolling through 2022, catching the previously unbeaten Nick Maximov with a first-round anaconda choke and grinding out a unanimous decision over veteran Wellington Turman at UFC 281. He edged grappling ace Gerald Meerschaert by split decision at UFC 292 in 2023 before hitting a rough stretch: a first-round TKO loss to Michel Pereira later that year and a 2024 stoppage defeat to Jacob Malkoun. He steadied himself with decision wins over Josh Fremd and Dylan Budka, then outpointed Brazilian jiu-jitsu standout Rodolfo Vieira in early 2025. More recently he has hit a downturn, dropping a decision to Edmen Shahbazyan and TKO losses to Cam Rowston and Cody Brundage.
Fighting style
Petroski is a wrestling-and-grappling specialist who builds his fights around pressure, takedowns, and chaining into submissions and ground-and-pound. His finish breakdown reflects that versatility on the mat: of his 13 wins, four have come by knockout and four by submission, the rest by decision, for a roughly 62% finish rate. His chokes from top control and scrambles, most notably his anaconda and arm-triangle entries, are his standout weapons. The honest counterpoint is his durability against heavier hitters; all five of his career losses by stoppage have come via strikes, exposing a vulnerability when opponents keep the fight standing or punish him in transitions.
Career highlights
- TUF springboard to the UFC — parlayed a 2021 stint on The Ultimate Fighter Season 29 into a roster spot and immediate momentum.
- Finished the unbeaten Nick Maximov — submitted the 8–0 prospect with a first-round anaconda choke in 2022, one of several slick chokes on his resume.
- Beat elite grapplers at their own game — outpointed veteran Gerald Meerschaert and BJJ standout Rodolfo Vieira by decision, validating his own ground pedigree.
