Personal background
David “The Undertaker” Dvořák is a Czech flyweight who competed in the UFC with a professional record of 20–6. Born June 5, 1992, in Hořice in the Czech Republic, he grew up in the Hradec Králové region and fights out of his hometown gym there. The nickname is no marketing invention: Dvořák spent years working as a gravedigger, following his father into the trade, and also did stints in highway construction while he built his fighting career. He came to combat sports relatively late, starting MMA as a teenager after a youth spent playing chess, and balanced training with work and study, earning a sports-management degree from the University of Hradec Králové in 2015. Standing 5′5″ with a 68″ reach and fighting out of the All Sports Academy, he developed into one of the most complete finishers the Czech flyweight scene has produced.
Path to the UFC
Dvořák turned professional in 2014 and tore through the European regional circuit, racking up titles and finishes across Czech promotions such as GCF and XFN. His pre-UFC run was a showcase of versatility, mixing armbars and rear-naked chokes with knockouts, including back-to-back stoppages of Miroslav Kubáň and a submission of highly regarded Arsen Taigibov at Oktagon 13 in 2019. That body of work earned him a UFC contract, which he accepted on roughly five weeks’ notice to debut in March 2020.
UFC career
Dvořák made an immediate impression in the Octagon. In his promotional debut at UFC on ESPN+ 28 in March 2020, he outpointed Bruno Silva over three rounds for a unanimous decision. He followed that with another unanimous-decision win over Jordan Espinosa in September 2020, then returned to his finishing roots in May 2021 with a first-round rear-naked-choke submission of Juancamilo Ronderos to open his UFC tenure at 3–0.
The step up in competition proved demanding. In March 2022 he dropped a unanimous decision to ranked contender Matheus Nicolau, then lost another unanimous decision to the dangerous Manel Kape that December. He was edged again in June 2023, dropping a unanimous decision to surging prospect Steve Erceg at UFC 289. That three-fight slide against the division’s upper tier closed out his UFC run, though Dvořák later returned to action in a 2024 boxing bout.
