Rise through the middleweight ranks

Heinisch made an immediate impression in the UFC. In his November 2018 debut he outworked veteran Cezar Ferreira over three rounds, then opened 2019 with a gritty decision win that pushed him into the rankings conversation. The level-up came quickly and tested him: in August 2019 he dropped a decision to top contender Derek Brunson, and that December he lost another decision to Omari Akhmedov. Heinisch answered with the signature win of his career in June 2020, flattening submission specialist Gerald Meerschaert with a first-round overhand right and follow-up ground strikes.

Tough finish at the top

The back half of his UFC run came against the division's elite. In February 2021, Heinisch went the distance with former title challenger Kelvin Gastelum but came up short on the cards. His final Octagon appearance came that July against rising star Nassourdine Imavov, who stopped him in the second round – a tough end to a run that pitted him against a murderer's row of ranked competition.

Fighting style

Heinisch is a wrestling-based pressure fighter who blends his championship grappling pedigree with surprising knockout pop. His finish breakdown is balanced – five knockouts and two submissions among his 14 wins, with seven decisions reflecting how often his relentless pace and top control simply ground opponents out. The Meerschaert knockout showed the power in his right hand, while his scrambling and scarf-hold submissions hint at the mat versatility he developed during his unconventional climb. His limitations surfaced against the very top of the division, where elite opponents like Brunson, Akhmedov and Gastelum out-pointed him; three of his five losses came by decision. At his best, "The Hurricane" was an exhausting, forward-marching matchup who could win on the feet or in the grappling exchanges.
