Oumar Sy Record: 12-3-0

UFC arrival

Sy made an immediate statement in the Octagon. In his May 2024 debut he submitted Tuco Tokkos with a first-round rear-naked choke, showcasing the grappling that fueled his European run. He followed in September 2024 with a composed three-round unanimous decision over Da Woon Jung, demonstrating that he could win on the scorecards as well as by finish. Through two fights he remained unbeaten and looked like a prospect on a fast track up the rankings.

Adversity and response

His first professional defeat came in June 2025, when he dropped a three-round unanimous decision to powerful veteran Alonzo Menifield — a fight that tested his ability to handle a physical, experienced opponent. Sy answered emphatically just months later, stopping Brendson Ribeiro with first-round elbows and punches in September 2025 to remind the division of his finishing ability. He stumbled again in March 2026, caught in a first-round guillotine choke by the rugged Ion Cutelaba, a setback that highlighted the risks that come with his aggressive grappling exchanges.

Fighting style

Sy is a long-limbed, finish-oriented light heavyweight who pairs rangy striking with opportunistic grappling. Of his 12 wins, five have come by knockout and four by submission, a profile that reflects a fighter who hunts for the stoppage from both phases. His reach lets him control distance on the feet, while his jiu-jitsu makes him dangerous whenever a fight hits the mat, particularly with the rear-naked choke that has finished several of his opponents. The honest caveat is that his willingness to scramble has cost him — his most recent loss came by submission — and the step up to elite competition has shown he can be out-muscled over three rounds.

Career highlights

• Undefeated entry to the UFC — arrived in the Octagon a perfect 12–0 after a dominant run through Europe's top promotions.
• Debut submission — choked out Tuco Tokkos in the first round of his UFC debut to extend his unbeaten streak.
• 75% career finish rate — nine of his 12 wins have come by knockout or submission, blending long-range striking with rear-naked-choke grappling.
