Personal background
Stewart "Kakamora" Nicoll is a flyweight competing in the UFC, born November 3, 1994, and fighting out of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. Born in the Solomon Islands, Nicoll spent his early childhood there before his family twice fled the political and ethnic turmoil that gripped the islands, eventually settling in Redcliffe on Australia's east coast. His ring name, Kakamora, nods to the small, strong trickster creatures of Solomon Islands mythology. Introduced to combat sports by his uncles — including, by his own telling, a YouTube clip of Fedor Emelianenko submitting a much larger Hong-Man Choi that lit the spark — Nicoll began grappling as a teenager and earned a BJJ black belt before fully committing to MMA. He trains and coaches out of Broz Martial Arts and stands 5'5" with a 65-inch reach.
Path to the UFC
Nicoll turned professional in 2018 and announced himself immediately, submitting Darren Habben with a first-round rear-naked choke on the ACB stage in Brisbane. He showed off his grappling range over the next two years, finishing Ryan Robertson with a third-round armbar and Mitchell Birkett with a slick inverted triangle. UFC debut at UFC 305
Nicoll got his shot on home soil in August 2024, debuting at UFC 305 in Perth against Jesus Aguilar. The night did not go his way: Aguilar caught him in a first-round guillotine choke, handing Nicoll his first defeat after a perfect 8-0 start to his professional career. It was a harsh introduction to the depth of the UFC flyweight division, but the manner of his arrival — an all-finishes regional résumé — kept expectations high.
Building back inside the Octagon
Nicoll returned in October 2025 against Lucas Rocha and went the full three rounds, ultimately dropping a unanimous decision. He was matched with Alessandro Costa in April 2026 and suffered a second-round TKO via a punch to the body, leaving him searching for his first UFC win.
