Bruna Brasil bio
Personal background
Bruna "The Special One" Brasil is a Brazilian strawweight competing in the UFC, born September 7, 1993, in Paranavaí, Paraná. Before she ever stepped into a cage, she chased a career in soccer, even signing with Foz do Iguaçu's Cataratas and dreaming of following national icon Marta, before pivoting fully to combat sports. The switch paid off: Brasil became a decorated kickboxer – a Brazilian, state, South American and world champion who earned a kickboxing black belt – and added a brown belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, giving her a striking-heavy but genuinely well-rounded base. Standing 5'6" with a 65" reach and fighting out of the Insanis MMA camp, she made the all-or-nothing leap to Rio de Janeiro in 2019, selling what she had and leaving her job to pursue MMA full time.
Path to the UFC
Brasil turned professional in 2017 and built her record on the Brazilian regional circuit through Shooto Brasil, the Legacy Fighting Alliance and Thunder Fight. An early statement came in November 2019, when she submitted future UFC fighter Alexia Thainara by guillotine choke at Thunder Fight 20. She kept building momentum with wins over the likes of Yasmin Castanho before earning her shot on Dana White's Contender Series in September 2022, where she knocked out the unbeaten Marnic Mann with a head kick in the second round to secure her UFC contract.
UFC run
Brasil's Octagon tenure has been a true rollercoaster of momentum swings against a steady stream of credible names. She debuted in April 2023 and was stopped by Denise Gomes via second-round ground strikes, but bounced back just months later with a unanimous-decision win over the previously unbeaten Shauna Bannon in July 2023. A unanimous-decision loss to Loma Lookboonmee in February 2024 was answered by arguably her biggest win, a unanimous-decision victory over Molly McCann at UFC 304 in July 2024. The pattern continued into the next stretch: a decision loss to Cong Wang in February 2025, a unanimous-decision win over the experienced Ming Shi in August 2025, then back-to-back decision losses to Ketlen Souza in February 2026 and to Alexia Thainara in a March 2026 rematch, leaving her at 11-7-1.
Fighting style
Brasil is a striking-led fighter whose kickboxing pedigree shows in her best moments – the head-kick knockout of Marnic Mann and a knee-and-punches finish on the regional scene are pure highlight-reel material – while her BJJ brown belt gives her guillotine-heavy submission threats when fights hit the floor. Three knockouts and two submissions against six decision wins translate to a roughly 45% finish rate, the mark of a fighter dangerous enough to end nights early but who often finds herself in close, judged battles. That is also where her record reveals its honest edge: of her seven losses, three have come by knockout and four by decision, and her UFC run has settled into a streaky win-one, lose-one rhythm rather than a sustained climb. Durability and toughness keep her competitive against ranked-level opposition, but converting close rounds and avoiding the early storm have been the recurring challenges.
Career highlights
- UFC 304 win over Molly McCann — outpointed the popular veteran by unanimous decision in front of a massive UK crowd, arguably the signature victory of her Octagon run.
- Contender Series knockout — finished the unbeaten Marnic Mann with a second-round head kick to earn her UFC contract.
- Decorated kickboxer — a Brazilian, South American and world kickboxing champion and black belt before transitioning to MMA, the foundation of her striking game.
