Bruno Silva bio
Personal background
Bruno Arruda da Silva, the Brazilian middleweight knockout artist known as "Blindado" (Portuguese for "Armored"), was born on July 13, 1989, in Cajazeiras, in the interior of Paraíba, a region without much of a combat-sports culture. He took up training in 2009 almost out of curiosity, but after losing his father just a few months in, fighting became therapy and then a calling. Fighting out of the Brazilian TKO program, the 6'0" striker with a 74-inch reach built his entire identity around heavy hands, racking up 20 knockouts across his professional career. He sharpened his game on the Russian circuit before reaching the UFC, where his all-action, swing-for-the-fences style made him a fan favorite at 185 pounds.
Path to the UFC
Silva turned professional in 2014, with his first recorded bout coming on The Ultimate Fighter Brazil Season 3, a KO/TKO loss to Vitor Miranda. From there he reeled off a long run of finishes on the Brazilian and international regional scene, eventually fighting his way to a middleweight title under M-1 Global. He signed with the UFC in 2019, but his promotional debut was delayed by a two-year anti-doping suspension after a failed pre-fight drug test, pushing his Octagon arrival to 2021.
UFC run
When Silva finally debuted in June 2021, he made it count, flattening Wellington Turman with a first-round knockout. He followed with a third-round standing TKO of Andrew Sanchez and a first-round stoppage of the previously one-loss Jordan Wright at UFC 269, announcing himself as one of the division's most dangerous finishers. His momentum stalled in 2022: he dropped a decision to a young, surging Alex Pereira and was submitted late by veteran Gerald Meerschaert.
Silva roared back in April 2023 with a first-round TKO of Brad Tavares, but the back half of his run grew difficult. He was submitted by Brendan Allen, then dropped decisions to unbeaten Shara Magomedov at UFC 294 and to former champion Chris Weidman. After another decision loss to Ismail Naurdiev at UFC 308, his slide continued with a first-round KO loss to Marc-André Barriault at UFC 315 in May 2025.
Fighting style
Silva is a pure pressure striker whose game lives and dies on knockout power. An overwhelming 20 of his 23 wins have come by KO or TKO, with the remaining three by decision and zero by submission – a finish profile that underlines just how much he hunts the stoppage. He throws with bad intentions, mixing punches with knees and elbows in the pocket, and his early UFC run showed how quickly he can end a night. The flip side is equally clear in the record: seven of his career losses have come by submission, exposing a grappling vulnerability that opponents with a strong ground game have repeatedly targeted.
Career highlights
- M-1 Global middleweight champion — captured a 185-pound title overseas, the credential that earned him his UFC contract.
- Knockout-of-the-night caliber UFC debut — iced Wellington Turman in the first round in June 2021 to open his Octagon run with a statement.
- 20-knockout résumé — with an 87% finish rate, "Blindado" is one of the most dangerous pure punchers to compete in the UFC middleweight division.
