Marco Tulio Silva Costa bio
Personal background
Marco Tulio Silva Costa is a Brazilian middleweight mixed martial artist born on August 30, 1994, in Uberlândia, Minas Gerais. Competing out of Team Paraíba at a tall 6'1" for the division, he carried the nickname "Robocop" through his early career before becoming widely known as "Matuto." His martial arts foundation runs deep: he started in karate as a young boy and trained taekwondo before transitioning into the disciplines that built his MMA game, becoming a Minas Gerais Muay Thai champion and a jiu-jitsu titlist in both Minas Gerais and São Paulo. That blend of stand-up power and grappling pedigree shaped a hard-hitting, finish-oriented style that carried him to an 11-1 professional record.
Path to the contender stage
Tulio turned professional in 2017 and made quick work of the Brazilian regional scene, opening with a debut win followed by a first-round rear-naked choke of Tulio Marcos and a second-round TKO of Alex de Paula, both at Federação Fight. The lone blemish on his record arrived in September 2018, a second-round knockout loss to the then-undefeated Alexandre Silva at SFT 5. Rather than rush back, Tulio reset, returning nearly three years later in 2021 a more complete fighter.
The winning streak and Contender Series
Tulio's comeback turned into a statement run. After a 2021 decision over Uaslen Oliveira, he announced himself in January 2022 by stopping the vastly experienced, 22-7 Glaico França with strikes in the second round at Fight Music Show 1. He kept the momentum rolling with a first-round TKO of Carlos Alberto Silva and a decision over Pedro Oliveira, then opened 2023 with a thunderous first-round knockout of the 35-win veteran Well Oliveira at LFA 151. That earned him a place on Dana White's Contender Series in August 2023, where he outpointed former Glory kickboxer Yousri Belgaroui by decision after a planned bout with Val Woodburn fell through. He continued building his case with a second-round TKO of Cemey dos Santos at LFA 175 in January 2024.

Fighting style
Tulio is a knockout artist with a grappler's safety net. Seven of his eleven wins have come by knockout, for a 73% finish rate, and his frame and power make him a problem on the feet against anyone in the division. His jiu-jitsu credentials give him a rear-naked-choke threat and the ability to operate on the mat, while his decision wins over durable veterans show he can also bank rounds when a finish does not come. His single career loss, an early knockout, is the one reminder that his aggressive style can occasionally leave him exposed.
Career highlights
- Contender Series win over Yousri Belgaroui — outpointed the former Glory kickboxer Yousri Belgaroui on Dana White's Contender Series, his highest-profile victory.
- Knockout of a 35-win veteran — stopped the deeply experienced Well Oliveira in the first round at LFA 151, a marquee finish on a major regional stage.
- 73% finish rate — closed out seven of eleven wins by knockout, the signature of a genuine power puncher at middleweight.
