UFC arrival and knockout streak

Zhang made his official UFC debut at UFC 298 in February 2024, blitzing Brendson Ribeiro with a first-round knockout that earned a Performance of the Night bonus and announced him as a problem at light heavyweight. He kept the highlight reel rolling that November, stopping Ozzy Diaz with elbows and punches in the opening round. His signature moment came in April 2025, when he brutally finished former title challenger Anthony Smith by first-round TKO in what turned out to be Smith's retirement bout – a statement win over a respected veteran.

Stepping up in class

The level-up against ranked opposition proved tougher. In August 2025, Zhang ran into the size, length and experience of Johnny Walker, who chopped him down with leg kicks and punches for a second-round TKO – the first time Zhang had been stopped past the opening round. He then dropped a first-round TKO to Alonzo Menifield in May 2026, a reminder that the same all-action, defensively porous style that makes him so dangerous also leaves him vulnerable.

Fighting style

Zhang is the definition of a finisher: every single one of his 19 wins has come inside the distance – 13 by knockout and six by submission – for a finish rate that sits at the very top of the division. He marches forward behind a heavy right hand, looks to drag opponents into the clinch and carves them up with elbows and short, vicious strikes. His Sanda and traditional-striking base gives him crisp, powerful combinations, and his early submissions show real grappling instincts. The trade-off is risk: he can be hittable, his five knockout losses prove he has a chin that can be tested, and longer, more measured strikers have found his aggression exploitable.
