UFC run

After a stretch away from the cage, Candelario returned in 2021 and got back on track with a unanimous-decision win over Miguel Restrepo at CES 63. His push toward the UFC stalled later that month at the Contender Series, where he dropped a split decision to Victor Altamirano in a close fight. He still earned his way into the Octagon, debuting in May 2022 against unbeaten Japanese prospect Tatsuro Taira, who handed him a unanimous-decision loss. Candelario's second UFC appearance came in November 2022 against Jake Hadley, who submitted him via triangle choke in the second round. Those bouts closed out his time on the sport's biggest stage, leaving him with an 8-3 professional record.

Fighting style

Candelario is a grappling-first fighter whose game is anchored by his Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, with three of his wins coming by submission and two by knockout against three decisions – a 63% finish rate that reflects a genuinely finish-hungry approach on the regional circuit. His Golden Gloves boxing background gave him real pop on the feet to complement his mat work, and his finishes span guillotines, rear-naked chokes and clean knockouts. The step up to the UFC, however, exposed the gap between regional standout and elite competition: his three career losses all came against the level of opposition that defines that jump, including a submission defeat to Hadley and decision losses to the highly regarded Taira and Altamirano. Against that grade of opponent, his offense was harder to impose, and the well-rounded but undersized profile that overwhelmed regional foes found tougher sledding.
