Long Xiao bio
Personal background
Long Xiao, also rendered Xiao Long, is a Chinese bantamweight competing in the UFC. Born April 13, 1998, in Hunan, China, he came to mixed martial arts through striking, beginning Sanda — Chinese kickboxing — in 2013 before transitioning to MMA in 2015. The 5'8" bantamweight, who carries a 70-inch reach, fights out of the Xin-Du Martial Arts Club in Shanxi and trains at the UFC Performance Institute in Shanghai for his Octagon bouts. Despite a striking pedigree rooted in Sanda, he has developed into one of the most active submission threats among China's emerging bantamweight contingent, blending kickboxing fundamentals with an aggressive grappling game.
Path to the UFC
Long turned professional in 2016 and spent years grinding through China's regional scene, fighting most prominently in the Wu Lin Feng (WLF) promotion, where he became the WLF MMA bantamweight champion. His first crack at the global stage came on Dana White's Contender Series in October 2021, where he dropped a unanimous decision to Cristian Quiñonez and did not earn a contract. He took a more proven route through Road to UFC, the promotion's Asian tournament series, beginning with a 2023 split-decision win over Shohei Nose. He advanced to the bantamweight final, but in June 2024 lost a split decision to Chang Ho Lee — falling just short of the automatic contract, yet doing enough across the tournament to be signed by the UFC anyway.
UFC run
Long made the most of his opportunity. In November 2024 he scored his signature UFC moment, knocking out the previously one-loss Quang Le with a third-round punch in Macau to put the division on notice. The step up in competition proved steep from there: he dropped a unanimous decision to the experienced Su Young You in August 2025, then faced former champion Cody Garbrandt at UFC 326 in March 2026, losing a unanimous decision in a bout in which repeated point deductions worked against him. He carries a professional record of 27–11.
Fighting style
Long is classified as a striker, a product of his Sanda background, but his record tells a more complete story: 9 of his 27 wins have come by submission, with armbars a recurring weapon, alongside 5 by knockout for a finish rate above 50 percent. That blend of crisp Sanda kickboxing and an opportunistic submission game makes him dangerous in every phase, and the third-round knockout of Quang Le showed his power can carry into the late rounds. His UFC losses, however, have exposed the difficulty of the step up: against more seasoned, physically mature opponents he has been outpointed across three rounds, and discipline in the cage has occasionally cost him on the scorecards. Still relatively young for the level, he profiles as a developing fighter with a high ceiling.
