Building toward the big stage

Taveras stacked statement wins as he climbed. In April 2022 he submitted veteran Martin Day with a first-round guillotine choke, then in March 2023 stopped grizzled journeyman Charles Bennett by first-round TKO. That form earned him a Dana White's Contender Series berth in September 2023, where he ran into unbeaten prospect Serhiy Sidey and was stopped by a first-round straight right – a sharp reminder of the level jump. Rather than fade, Taveras returned just over a month later in October 2023 and blitzed Cortavious Romious with a first-round barrage of left hooks and hammerfists, forcing his way onto the UFC roster.

Inside the UFC

Taveras made his Octagon debut in style at UFC 297 in January 2024, avenging his Contender Series defeat by edging Sidey via split decision in a three-round rematch. The momentum stalled after that. He dropped a unanimous decision to seasoned Brit Davey Grant in December 2024, then lost another unanimous decision to Jack Jenkins in September 2025, leaving him at 10-4 overall as he looks to find his footing among the division's contenders.

Fighting style

Taveras is a finisher first. Five of his 10 wins have come by knockout and three more by submission, an 80% finish rate that reflects a fighter who hunts for the stoppage rather than the scorecards.
