Personal background
Maycee Kaye Barber, nicknamed "The Future," is an American UFC flyweight born May 18, 1998, in Greeley, Colorado. One of six children, she was raised in a fighting household by parents Bucky and Maryanne Barber, who started all their kids in martial arts young; Maycee was on the mats as a small child and told her family by age 13 that she intended to become a UFC fighter. She earned a second-degree black belt in karate and trains in Brazilian jiu-jitsu, where she has held a purple belt under the Gracie lineage. The 5'5" flyweight, who fights out of Team Alpha Male, built her early reputation on relentless forward pressure, heavy elbows in the clinch, and a finisher's mentality that made her one of the most hyped young prospects in women's MMA.
Path to the UFC
Barber turned professional in 2017 and rolled through the Legacy Fighting Alliance, finishing or outpointing every opponent she faced.
