Personal background
Mateusz Gamrot is a Polish lightweight competing in the UFC and one of the most accomplished fighters Poland has produced. Born December 11, 1990, in Poznań, Poland, Gamrot began wrestling at age 10 and moved to a sports boarding school as a teenager to train freestyle wrestling, eventually competing in hundreds of matches and earning a place on the national team. Nicknamed "Gamer," he is also a decorated grappler who has tested himself at the ADCC World Championships. The 5'10" lightweight trains out of American Top Team in Florida and carries a 26-4 professional record built on a smothering, world-class wrestling base.
Path to the UFC
Gamrot turned professional in 2012 and built his name in Poland's premier promotion, KSW, where he became a two-division champion and one of the country's biggest stars. His standout KSW run included a unanimous-decision win over UFC veteran Andre Winner at KSW 24 in 2013 and a memorable rivalry with Norman Parke – Gamrot won their first meeting at KSW 39 by decision in 2017, the rematch at KSW 40 ended in a no contest after an accidental eye poke, and he settled the trilogy with a TKO at KSW 53 in 2020.
