Alexander Hernandez Record: 19-9-0

Explosive UFC arrival

Hernandez announced himself in spectacular fashion at UFC 222 in March 2018, taking a short-notice debut against ranked contender Beneil Dariush and knocking him out in just 42 seconds. The win earned a Performance of the Night bonus and rocketed him into the lightweight conversation. He backed it up with a unanimous decision over Olivier Aubin-Mercier later that year, but the spotlight came with a reality check: a 2019 TKO loss to veteran Donald Cerrone. He rebounded by decisioning the rugged Francisco Trinaldo.

The roller-coaster years

Hernandez's career settled into a pattern of dramatic highs and lows. A 2020 TKO loss to Drew Dober was followed by a first-round knockout of Chris Gruetzemacher, and a 2021 decision loss to Thiago Moisés gave way to a one-punch knockout of Mike Breeden. He dropped fights to Renato Moicano and Billy Quarantillo, then beat MMA iron man Jim Miller by decision in 2023. After losses to Bill Algeo and Damon Jackson, he steadied himself with a split decision over Austin Hubbard at UFC 307.

Recent resurgence

Hernandez entered the strongest stretch of his late career in 2025, decisioning Kurt Holobaugh before scoring back-to-back TKO finishes of Chase Hooper at UFC 319 and veteran Diego Ferreira – a three-fight surge that reminded the division of his finishing power. He stumbled in his most recent outing, dropping a unanimous decision to Rafa García.

Fighting style

Hernandez is an explosive, power-first striker who layers a strong wrestling base underneath. His finish breakdown tells the story – eight knockouts and two submissions among his 18 wins, a 56 percent finish rate – with most of his damage coming from his heavy left hand and overhand right. He is at his most dangerous early, hunting for the quick finish, and he can grapple when he chooses to. The honest critique is consistency: he has lost to elite competition by both knockout and submission, and his aggression can leave him exposed when a fight goes long, which has made him one of the division's most thrilling but volatile gatekeepers.
