Personal background
Elves Brener is a Brazilian lightweight competing in the UFC with a professional record of 16-6. Born on September 27, 1997, in Maués, in the state of Amazonas, he came up through the deep jiu-jitsu culture of the Amazon, where he says sport became his path to a better life. He started training around the ages of 13 and 14, won numerous regional jiu-jitsu titles, and translated that grappling base into a feared submission game. Fighting out of the Chute Boxe Diego Lima camp and standing 5'10" with a 72" reach, Brener built his early career on the Amazonian regional scene before carrying his finishing instincts to the sport's biggest stage.
Path to the UFC
Brener turned professional in 2016 and announced himself immediately, opening his career with a remarkable run of armbar finishes – submitting Thales Morais, Eurides Bandeira, Bruno Quintanilha and Janaildo Marinho in his first stretch. He dominated the Amazonian circuit, claiming Amazon Talent and Mr. Cage titles, but the climb was not without setbacks: he absorbed decision losses to Denis Silva and Sergey Andreev, and a unanimous-decision defeat to unbeaten prospect Gabriel Santos at Future MMA 12 in October 2020. He rebounded with more submissions and earned his shot at the UFC.
UFC breakthrough
Brener made an instant impression in the Octagon. In his February 2023 debut at UFC 284, he edged veteran Zubaira Tukhugov by split decision, then showcased his violence in July 2023 with a third-round TKO of Guram Kutateladze. He capped a breakout year that November with a first-round knockout of unbeaten Kaynan Kruschewsky, a one-punch finish that pushed his UFC record to 3-0 and marked him as one of the division's most exciting young finishers.
Stepping up in competition
The level then rose sharply. In May 2024, Brener dropped a unanimous decision to highly regarded Myktybek Orolbai at UFC 301, and that August he was stopped by submission specialist Joel Alvarez via knees and punches in the third round. He returned in August 2025 against unbeaten-tested contender Esteban Ribovics in a high-pace bout, ultimately losing a three-round unanimous decision. The recent skid against elite competition has been a hard lesson, but Brener remains a dangerous out for anyone in the lightweight division.
