Record-setting UFC debut

McKinney announced himself in spectacular fashion. In his promotional debut at UFC 263 in June 2021, he knocked out Matt Frevola with punches just seconds into the first round – one of the fastest finishes in UFC history. He followed it with a first-round rear-naked choke of Fares Ziam in February 2022, only to run into a first-round TKO loss against the hard-hitting Drew Dober in March 2022. He bounced right back by submitting Erick Gonzalez later that year.

The high-variance years

McKinney's career became a string of fast, decisive results in both directions. He absorbed a flying-knee knockout from Ismael Bonfim at UFC 283 in January 2023 and a submission loss to Nazim Sadykhov in July 2023, but answered with first-round stoppages of Mike Breeden and Brendon Marotte the same year. A head-kick knockout loss to Esteban Ribovics in May 2024 was followed by a strong 2025: a first-round TKO of Damir Hadžović and a first-round guillotine of Viacheslav Borshchev at UFC 317. After a submission loss to Chris Duncan at UFC 323 in December 2025, he opened 2026 by blitzing Kyle Nelson with a head kick and punches in the first round.

Fighting style

McKinney is the definition of a finisher: every single one of his 18 wins has come inside the distance – nine by knockout and nine by submission – for a 100 percent finish rate, and he has never been to a decision in his MMA career. His wrestling sets up both his ground-and-pound and his suffocating chokes, while his striking carries genuine one-shot power. The flip side is the danger that defines his bouts: all eight of his losses are also finishes, reflecting a fearless, defense-second style that turns nearly every fight into a sprint someone is going to lose early.
