BIO
Early Life and Athletic Beginnings
Angela Hill was born on January 12, 1985, in Prince George’s County Maryland. Before MMA ever entered the picture, she was already a competitive and creative force, earning a degree in fine arts from Cooper Union in New York City. With a background in animation and design, Hill brought a unique perspective to fighting: one of discipline, detail, and flow. Her first serious athletic pursuit came through Muay Thai, a striking art she embraced in her late 20s..
Hill showed a natural aptitude for combat sports. Her crisp striking and explosive movement quickly set her apart on the amateur Muay Thai scene, and before long, she transitioned to professional MMA.
Fast Track to the UFC
Angela Hill made her professional MMA debut in 2014 and had only one pro fight before getting selected for The Ultimate Fighter: Season 20, which was cast to launch the UFC's brand-new strawweight division. Though she didn’t win the show, her striking talent was obvious.
Hill officially made her UFC debut at UFC 181 in December 2014. Still new to the grappling side of the sport, she suffered a submission loss in her second UFC bout to Rose Namajunas, which led to her release from the promotion. But that setback didn’t define her, it became fuel.
Champion Outside the UFC
Rather than falter, Hill went to Invicta FC, the top women’s MMA promotion outside the UFC. There, she went on an impressive run and captured the Invicta FC Strawweight Championship, showcasing a refined version of her striking arsenal and an improved takedown defense. Her performances earned her a second UFC contract and this time, she was ready.
Return to UFC and Veteran Status
Since rejoining the UFC in 2017, Angela Hill has become one of the most active fighters in the organization. She has fought elite names such as Claudia Gadelha, Michelle Waterson, Tecia Torres, and Amanda Lemos, often stepping in on short notice and pushing every opponent to the edge.
Hill's style is built on volume striking, fast footwork, and durability. She often lands over 100 significant strikes per fight, and has one of the highest total strike counts in women’s UFC history. Though many of her fights have ended in close decisions some controversial, she's earned respect as a fighter who never backs down and never slows down.
She also became the first African-American woman to fight in the UFC, helping pave the way for greater diversity and visibility in the sport.
