Fast UFC rise

Calvillo seized her opportunity, submitting Amanda Cooper with a first-round rear-naked choke on ten days' notice at UFC 209 in March 2017. She followed with another rear-naked choke of Pearl Gonzalez at UFC 210, then outpointed veteran Joanne Wood to open her UFC tenure 3–0 and announce herself as a fast-rising strawweight prospect. Her ascent met its first check at UFC 219 in December 2017, where former champion Carla Esparza took a unanimous decision.

Flyweight run and later career

Calvillo rebounded by moving up to flyweight, submitting Poliana Botelho in the first round in 2018 and outpointing Cortney Casey in early 2019. A pivotal main event against unbeaten Marina Rodriguez in December 2019 ended in a majority draw. She earned arguably her biggest win in June 2020, taking a five-round unanimous decision over former title challenger Jessica Eye to enter the divisional title picture.
