Climbing toward the UFC

Johnson got his first shot at the Contender Series in 2020 but came up short, losing a unanimous decision to Ronnie Lawrence. He regrouped, absorbed a 2021 knockout loss to Mana Martinez, then submitted undefeated prospect Mo Miller by triangle choke later that year – a momentum-shifting win. He earned his UFC contract by outpointing previously unbeaten Cage Warriors champion Jack Cartwright over three rounds at the 2022 Contender Series.

UFC tenure

Johnson's Octagon run proved difficult against the division's elite. He debuted in 2023 against grappling specialist Da'Mon Blackshear, who finished him with a rare twister submission, but Johnson answered with the signature UFC win of his career – a third-round rear-naked choke of Chad Anheliger later that year. He then dropped a unanimous decision to surging contender Asu Almabayev in 2024 and a first-round armbar to Felipe Bunes to close out his most recent stretch.

Fighting style

Johnson is a long, aggressive finisher who uses his height and reach to set up powerful striking, with a 69 percent finish rate that ranks among the highest in his weight range – eight knockouts and three submissions across 16 wins. His best weapons are his length and his nose for the stoppage, capable of ending fights with knees, elbows, punches or a tight submission.
