Patricio Pitbull Record: 38-9-0

Freire quickly emerged as a prodigious talent. Small in stature but intense in focus, he became a black belt in BJJ under coach Jair Lourenço and transitioned into MMA in his teens. Motivated by the success of other Brazilian legends and supported by a strong family and gym culture, Freire built his career from the ground up, determined to prove that pound-for-pound greatness wasn’t reserved for UFC athletes.

MMA Debut & Rise to Bellator

Patrício Pitbull made his professional MMA debut in 2004 at the age of 16, compiling an impressive record across Brazilian and international circuits. Known for his explosiveness and finishing instincts, he signed with Bellator in 2010 and made an immediate impact during the promotion’s early tournament-based era.

He advanced to the finals of Bellator’s Season 2 Featherweight Tournament but lost a razor-thin split decision to Joe Warren. Freire rebounded and eventually captured the Bellator Featherweight World Championship in 2014 by defeating Pat Curran. That victory marked the beginning of one of the most decorated and dominant careers in Bellator history.

Over the next decade, Freire defended the featherweight title multiple times, defeated top contenders like Daniel Straus (in a four-fight rivalry), Emmanuel Sanchez, Juan Archuleta, and A.J. McKee, and even moved up in weight to claim the Bellator Lightweight World Championship in 2019 by knocking out Michael Chandler in the first round. That win made him the second fighter in Bellator history to become a simultaneous two-division champion.

Fighting Style & Attributes

Standing at 5'6" with a 65.5-inch reach, Freire fights out of an orthodox stance and blends compact power with elite timing and well-rounded technique. A black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu with world-class grappling credentials, he’s also known for his knockout power and aggressive striking style—particularly his left hook and overhand right.

Freire is one of the rare fighters who can finish a fight anywhere. He combines calculated pressure with a high fight IQ, mixing in takedowns, leg kicks, and sharp counters. His durability, composure, and championship experience have made him one of the most dangerous fighters in the world across multiple weight classes.

Despite competing outside the UFC, Freire is widely respected as one of the best featherweights of his era and has long called for cross-promotional fights to test his skills against the division’s elite globally.
