Personal background
Michelle "The Wild One" Montague is an undefeated featherweight in the UFC, a 8–0 finisher who made history as the first New Zealand woman to sign with the promotion. Born on November 25, 1993, in Matamata, in New Zealand's Waikato region, Montague built a deep amateur pedigree before ever turning professional. She is a former IMMAF Lightweight World Champion, a two-time IMMAF Oceania champion, a two-time Oceania wrestling champion and a multiple-time national jiu-jitsu champion, and she represented New Zealand on the wrestling mats at international level. That grappling foundation – anchored by a purple belt in Brazilian jiu-jitsu – is the spine of her game. Path to the UFC
Montague turned professional in 2022 after a decorated amateur run, and she wasted no time imposing her grappling. She submitted Olivia Parker by first-round rear-naked choke at the PFL Challenger Series in March 2022, then ran the same play on Danielle Wynn, Shaquita Amador Woods and Abby Montes across 2022 and 2023, each by rear-naked choke.
