Luana Carolina bio
Personal background
Luana Carolina, the Brazilian UFC bantamweight known as "Dread," is a striker by trade whose roots run deep in the Muay Thai gyms of São Paulo. Born on June 11, 1993, in São Paulo, she built her foundation in the art of eight limbs, earning a black belt and twice claiming both São Paulo state and Brazilian national Muay Thai titles before ever stepping into a cage. Her nickname is a nod to the dreadlocked hairstyle that became her signature. Standing 5'7" with a long 69-inch reach, she fights out of the Capital da Luta team in Brazil and made her professional MMA debut in 2015, carrying the aggressive, kick-heavy stand-up game that has defined her throughout her career.
Path to the UFC
Carolina turned professional in 2015 and won her first four bouts on the Brazilian regional circuit, including a 2016 stoppage and decision wins that showcased her striking polish. She earned her UFC contract through Dana White's Contender Series in 2018, outpointing the unbeaten Mabelly Lima over three rounds to secure her place on the roster. The signing made her one of a wave of Brazilian Contender Series graduates to reach the sport's biggest stage.
UFC career
Carolina made a winning octagon debut in May 2019, taking a unanimous decision over fellow Brazilian Priscila Cachoeira at UFC 237. Her run hit an early snag when she was caught in a first-round kneebar by Ariane Lipski da Silva in July 2020, but she bounced back with back-to-back wins, edging Poliana Botelho by split decision and outworking Lupita Godinez over three rounds in 2021. A pair of losses followed in striking-heavy affairs, a 2022 knockout against Molly McCann via a spectacular spinning back elbow and a split-decision defeat to Joanne Wood at UFC 286.
A career-best run
Carolina then strung together the best stretch of her UFC tenure. She outpointed unbeaten Croatian prospect Ivana Petrović in July 2023, scored a third-round TKO of Julija Stoliarenko in February 2024, and added a unanimous-decision win over veteran Lucie Pudilová that July to build a three-fight winning streak. The momentum stalled in September 2025, when she dropped a unanimous decision to the unbeaten Michelle Montague.

Fighting style
Carolina is a stand-up specialist whose Muay Thai pedigree shows in her long-range kicking, clinch work and volume striking. Her 11-5 record carries a 36% finish rate, with seven of her wins coming by decision, a reflection of a points-oriented, output-driven style rather than a one-shot finisher's game; her three knockouts and lone submission show she can end fights when openings appear. Her length and footwork let her control distance and bank rounds, but her grappling has at times been a vulnerability, as the kneebar loss to Lipski demonstrated, and she has occasionally been caught by the cleaner power shot in firefights. At her best, she is a busy, technical kickboxer who wins by accumulation.
Career highlights
- Contender Series graduate — earned her UFC contract in 2018 by defeating then-unbeaten Mabelly Lima, joining the promotion on her own terms.
- Three-fight UFC win streak — beat Ivana Petrović, Julija Stoliarenko and Lucie Pudilová across 2023–2024 for the best run of her career.
- Decorated Muay Thai background — a Muay Thai black belt and two-time São Paulo state and Brazilian national champion before turning to MMA.
