Rise to title contention

Suarez announced herself as a problem for the entire division across a dominant unbeaten run. She decisioned the unbeaten Viviane Pereira in 2017, then submitted future flyweight champion Alexa Grasso with a first-round rear-naked choke in May 2018. That September she overwhelmed former champion Carla Esparza with ground-and-pound at UFC 228, and in June 2019 she outpointed Nina Nunes at UFC 238. After a long injury layoff, she returned in 2023 to submit Montana De La Rosa and then former champion Jéssica Andrade, both by second-round guillotine choke, vaulting her into a title shot.

Title challenge and rebound

Suarez challenged for the UFC Strawweight Championship in February 2025 at UFC 312, facing Weili Zhang over five rounds. She lost a unanimous decision – the only defeat of her career – but quickly reasserted herself as the division's top threat. In September 2025 she outpointed Amanda Lemos by unanimous decision, and in April 2026 she submitted Lupita Godinez with a second-round rear-naked choke at UFC 327, keeping herself firmly in the championship picture.

Fighting style

Suarez is one of the most feared grapplers in women's MMA, built on a world-class wrestling pedigree that makes her takedowns almost inevitable. Six of her wins have come by submission and two by knockout or TKO for a 67% finish rate, and once she puts an opponent on the mat she is relentless with ground-and-pound and chokes. Her takedown entries and top control are the spine of her game, and even in defeat her wrestling remained a constant threat. The lone question mark, exposed in the title loss to Weili Zhang, is whether she can impose that grappling on the very best strikers across a full 25 minutes.
