Chepe "Machine Gun" Mariscal is an American UFC featherweight, born José Mariscal on October 27, 1992, in Cicero, Illinois. He was introduced to martial arts as a young child when his parents enrolled him in classes for self-defense, and that early start grew into a lifelong vocation; he has described himself as a fighter with decades of mat time. A black belt in judo and Brazilian jiu-jitsu who now trains with Denver's respected Elevation Fight Team, the 5'6" featherweight fights out of Cicero and brings a pressure-heavy, finish-minded style that fits his "Machine Gun" nickname.
Path to the UFC
Mariscal turned pro in 2014 and took the long, grinding road to the UFC, fighting across promotions like Ring of Combat, the HFC, Victory FC, Combate Global and the LFA. The early years were unforgiving: a 2016 first-round TKO loss to highly touted prospect Gregor Gillespie and a 2017 decision loss to unbeaten Bryce Mitchell showed how stiff his competition was. The path stayed bumpy. He out-pointed unbeaten Youssef Zalal in early 2019, then absorbed a first-round knockout from Joanderson Brito and, in 2020, losses to Steve Garcia and Sean Soriano. He kept winning. Just months later, at UFC 293 in September 2023, he beat Jack Jenkins when Jenkins suffered an arm injury and verbally submitted in the second round. Mariscal then edged Morgan Charriere by split decision in early 2024 and, in August 2024, scored the biggest win of his career, a unanimous decision over durable veteran Damon Jackson. He carried that momentum into 2025 with a decision over Ricardo Ramos in March, before running into a familiar name: in November 2025 at UFC 322, the now-veteran Pat Sabatini turned the tables and beat Mariscal by unanimous decision, years after their first meeting.
